How Mike Spal’s Next Chapter Took Flight While ODS Gained a Premier Detailing Team
When Mike Spal started Automotive Detailing Solutions (ADS) in 2008, his mission was simple: deliver high-end, consistent detail and make-ready services to luxury dealerships. Nearly two decades later—with a team of 26 skilled employees and a portfolio built on trust, quality, and excellence—Mike found himself at a professional crossroads… and a personal dream taking shape.
“I was presented an opportunity to go to flight school and train to be a helicopter pilot,” Mike says. “It was something I’d always wanted to pursue, and the timing lined up perfectly with a conversation I’d had years earlier with Heath Mayor, CEO of OnSite Dealer Solutions.”
Mike and Heath’s paths first crossed years in the early 2000’s at NDDI—National Dealership Detailing Incorporated—one of the early pioneers of outsourced detailing services. Heath and Mike worked together over those years with both sharing a vision for dealer-focused reconditioning services which helped forge a long-standing professional friendship between the two. Even after Mike branched out and launched ADS, the two stayed in touch—swapping leads, sharing insight, and occasionally talking shop.
“I always told Mike, if he ever wanted to sell ADS, ODS would be interested,” Heath recalls. “When he called to say he was ready, we knew it could be a great fit—not just for us, but for his employees and clients as well.”
A Win-Win Acquisition
ADS had established itself as a reliable, luxury-focused detailing partner across multiple dealerships, with about 95% of their volume coming from high-end brands. They handled everything from new and preowned vehicles to service cars and customer vehicles—often working behind the scenes to ensure showroom-ready presentation and consistent quality.
For ODS, acquiring ADS was about more than revenue.
“We saw the value immediately,” Heath says. “Mike had built a solid team of skilled industry professionals, which was a huge asset for us. Beyond the customer list, we were gaining talent—people who could grow with our company, and in some cases, step into leadership roles.”
Mike echoes that sentiment: “Heath was the best route for us to take care of our customers and our employees. I wanted to ensure my people were retained and that our dealerships were supported by a company with the resources and know-how to handle it.”
Simple, Smooth, and Fair
What stood out in this acquisition was how easy it was. Mike describes the entire process as “smooth” and “fair,” noting that there was very little back-and-forth negotiation. Once both sides aligned on value, the transition happened quickly and professionally.
“Heath and his team were respectful of the business I’d built,” Mike says. “They worked fast, knew what they were looking for, and made the process easy.”
ODS also introduced their proprietary SERV™ software to ADS clients, a move Mike welcomed. Previously, the ADS team managed operations the old-fashioned way—spreadsheets, manual tracking, and sometimes inconsistent billing. With SERV™ software, dealership clients now had access to transparent reporting, streamlined invoicing, and better operational oversight.
“Heath’s technology helped protect and enhance what we’d built,” Mike adds. “It was a game-changer for my clients.”
Mike’s New Mission
Now based in Oregon, Mike is chasing a new dream. He’s deep into helicopter flight school, with plans to give tours, become an instructor, and eventually transition into fire and search & rescue missions.
“I’ve always been passionate about helping people,” he says. “This next chapter lets me pursue that while knowing the company I built is in good hands.”
At ODS, the feeling is mutual. “It’s rare that a business acquisition goes this smoothly,” Heath says. “Mike built a great operation, and we’re honored he trusted us with it.”
