ODS Gives Back to Kansas City
At OnSite Dealer Solutions (ODS), we believe in being more than just an automotive service partner, we believe in being a force for good in the communities where we live and work.
This October, our team proudly supported two incredible Kansas City organizations making a real difference: Pete’s Garden, a local nonprofit fighting food insecurity, and Rockhurst High School, whose students are leading the next generation of community leaders through events like Chipping for the Garden, a recent event created to support Pete’s Garden.
Pete’s Garden: Turning Unused Food into Family Meals
Founded in 2019 by Tamara Weber, Pete’s Garden was born out of a simple but powerful idea, redirecting unserved, prepared food from restaurants, caterers, and food service operations to families in need.
“Kansas City has been a little behind the curve when it comes to food waste,” says Weber. “We operate out of a health-inspected kitchen where volunteers portion, container, and deliver meals to community organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs and Operation Breakthrough who are the direct links to local families.”
Through these partnerships, Pete’s Garden helps fight a staggering statistic: 1 in 6 children in Kansas City is food insecure. Their ready-to-heat meals provide more than nourishment, they create opportunities for families to gather, reconnect, and share time at the dinner table together.
“Family mealtime isn’t just about food,” Weber adds. “It’s about connection, laughter, conversation, and feeling cared for.”
The organization now serves roughly 4,000 individual meals each week, reaching more than 1,000 families equivalent to 200,000 meals per year.
Rockhurst High School’s “Chipping for the Garden”
ODS’s community impact this fall was amplified through Rockhurst High School’s “Chipping for the Garden” golf event, held October 9th at Oakwood Country Club in Kansas City. The tournament, led by Rockhurst senior Conner Vickers, rallied 34 participants, including families, friends, and sponsors, like ODS, to raise funds directly for Pete’s Garden.
“We came up with the idea in August as a way to bring people together for a good cause,” says Conner. “We wanted it to be fun and relaxed, but still focused on the bigger goal of supporting Pete’s Garden.”
With donations from across the golf community, including a signed baseball from George Brett and new Titleist Vokey wedges courtesy of Titleist rep, Chad Homsey, the event raised an impressive $17,000 for Pete’s Garden.
“What Conner did for us has just blown us away,” Weber said. “He raised more for Pete’s Garden with this event than any other fundraiser we’ve ever done!”
Those funds are now helping Pete’s Garden implement a new CRM system, enabling them to better track donations, engage volunteers, and expand their reach throughout Kansas City.
“This will take us from pen-and-paper and standard spreadsheets to a robust, customized system that lets us grow our capacity to serve better,” Weber explains.
Building a Legacy of Leadership
Rockhurst High School’s initiative represents a larger mission for them, cultivating leadership and service among student-athletes. Next year, and for many years after, this new tradition will continue with Rockhurst Golf senior leadership, Henry Mayor (27’), Hank Honsey (27’), Conner Dierks (27’) and Cole White (27’).
“We’re hoping to build a legacy so that other Rockhurst sports programs can follow this model,” Conner shared. “We want Rockhurst athletics to stand for more than just competition, we want to help sustain Kansas City.”
With student leaders like Conner and community partners like ODS, the future of service in Kansas City looks bright.
